In our last devotion we spoke about how the power of the Spirit is purposed and going to be demonstrated through the ministry of reconciliation. However, it’s not just ok to find out what His purpose is… how can we tell when we are doing things by His direction or not? There’s the simple answer: if it glorifies God, as in is it pointing to Christ. Yet, how do we know whether we are acting out of our own desires or God’s leading when we are evangelizing?
Simple. Galatians 5
Fruits of the Flesh:
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.
Fruits of the Spirit:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Today’s devotion is simple: look at the above two sections of Scripture and list out these characteristics… and see where they are evident in your life. BTW a lack of the works of the flesh doesn’t mean you have fruit of the Spirit. Perhaps you’re in the realm of not walking in the flesh… but are you allowing the Spirit to work in your life? His purpose is to empower you in the ministry of reconciliation, so if you don’t see Him moving it’s pretty evident you’re not on path for the mission in front of us.
I’ve done quite a few devotions on this content so I will link them below. I feel this is an area we have discussed quite a bit but it is directly connected to living a Spirit filled life and I would be amiss without mentioning it.
Here’s the Devos on each part of the list:
Spend 1-2 minutes thanking God for the power to walk in peace, joy, etc. Then spend 2-3 minutes asking Him to help you be intentional about walking in the Spirit.
Be looking around your life and see if there are fruits coming out. Perhaps pray for God to show you someone you can practice listening to the Spirit and experiencing His fruit manifest in your life.
