18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
This has been the purpose of all that I do. Every message is to push the hearers further and further into the understanding of the hope which God has called us to. We have such an incredible inheritance! Imagine: you were once a lowly prisoner. You had no wealth, nothing of value to trade for freedom. Yet God saw it within His character to bestow all of the worth and value of Christ onto you! He decided that based upon His mercy and grace He would purchase you with His own blood, paying the highest prices possible for you as a prisoner. With that purchase God deemed, according to His grace and mercy, to move you from valueless to the most valuable of all creation.
🤯
It didn’t stop there, that’s only the “hope to which He has called you.” Though this is enough to have made an incredible happy ending to this story God continued. He continued and granted you access to His own righteousness! The “riches of His glorious inheritance” is that you were deemed righteous, just as righteous as Christ, through no action of your own. This is like trading in a dirty diaper for a palace and kingdom. Do you see that? You wake up every day as royalty… but came to the table as only a dirty diaper. You were pretty smelly… So your smelly diaperheadedness was worthless, and unable to purchase your freedom yet God paid for it. He didn’t only pay for it but He then marked you as incredibly valuable and also incredibly royal!
Yet again, it didn’t stop there. He then imparted His “incomparably great power” to you. You have been made righteous by name and then granted access to a power that could be used to actually DO the things He required of mankind. God granted you the ability to live righteously, to be merciful, faithful, and forgiving… all things that are impossible without Him. Then He called you to take that power and partner with Him in freeing others and showing them the access to that same hope, inheritance, and power.
Hope: Salvation
Inheritance: Righteousness
Power: walking in the Spirit
That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
God has RADICALLY changed everything about you and offers you to continue walking in that radical change. Now He is calling you to embrace that power and go out into the world to offer the same truth to them.
Respond:
Spend 1 minute thanking God this is true for you! Then spend 2-3 minutes asking God to really open your eyes to what this means about you. Ask Him to really show you the depth of what has happened. For when you see this you will worship with a heart that can not be contained. God is great, and I cannot believe what He has done for us. This is remarkable!! 🙂
Relate:
Find a believer (maybe a spouse, a friend, or a child) and motivate them about this! They are filled with the living God who can do all things!! PRAISE THE LORD! 🙂
Find an unbeliever and share the truth that God gives us access to this not by way of our own actions, but simply through faith in Him alone.
