Rejoice:
Read:
22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
If you break down the meaning of each greek word and then put them together into the sentence ( to add the meaning a greek reader would have read) it looks like this:
God place every single thing under subjection or under the requirement of obedience to Christ- He can do anything. The same Christ that everything is in obedience to is ALSO the head, the life source, and authority over everything for the Church. We are found as a part of Christ and in Him is all of everything we need.
In our last devotion we talked about the righteousness and the power God has endowed upon us. We often receive that power, acknowledge it… but don’t really trust it or believe in it. Here we read that all things are under Christ’s feet. That He is head over everything for the Church…. we are a part of His body, a part of the fullness of Him. Do we really believe that? I know that I clearly don’t. I don’t function this way. I grow anxious about my life, the things I need to do, the decisions I need to make. I seemingly struggle with my inability to constantly obey. Why aren’t we resting in the fact that He is over all things? Why aren’t we handing Him the problems, asking Him to guide us in them, and just wait for a response? Instead we pray about them and then maintain anxiety or concern about them… showing that we really don’t believe He will take care of them. We hand them to Him and then take them right back. James 1 says in verse 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
Do you ever feel like a wave? We’ve done it to ourselves. We need to hand it to Him and trust Ephesians 1:22-23. God has it covered, we’ve been made righteous, and we need to partner with Him and just trust that He is working in us to perfect us in accordance to the image that is His Son! We doubt, perhaps unknowingly, and as a result experience the waves of life. The enemy has been deceiving us for far too long. It is time for a change.
I will not stay here. I will NOT allow this to be the banner over my life: taking back the reigns. I commit to now, in this moment, petitioning of the Lord daily to help me lay down everything and trust Him to deal with it. I will pray, I will listen, and I will obey. Please join me in that.
Respond:
Spend 1 minute thanking God that He is in control! Then spend 2-3 minutes asking Him to help you fully trust Him. Ask Him to help you walk in His truth and not constantly doubt it.
Relate:
Share this truth with someone. We can find our sabbath rest now, daily, in Him. We can truly not be anxious (as Philippians 4 says), because our God is in authority over all.
P.s. are you anxious? Are you scared? Are you confused about life? Those are symptoms of your relationship with the Lord. Start praying over the source or the problem not the symptoms of it. Pray and trust the Lord to fix it. We need to correct our relationship with Him. It has been too thin too long!
I was refecting this morning on a relationship teaching, and it asked what our number one personal need was. I thought, Lord, I desire to be done with fear and anxiety, and it’s effects on my life. Look at the devotion today. Was there a more clear answer? Uh. No.
😊 Isn’t it awesome how He works?! 😀 At first glance it’s unfortunate for me because it seems like He sometimes inflicts me (or allows the enemy to inflict me) with whatever I need to be writing about to reach those in need. I’ll have these random brand new problems arise and I’m so confused and praying over them. Yet 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 rings true: 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. He allows me to enter troubles so that I can see the urgency and share the path out of those problems with other people. Though it is irritating at times, I love being used for His glory! 😝
