We have been walking through Ephesians and seeing what the correct effect of the Gospel is. It is more than just an insurance plan, but a renewal of our minds, a change in life, and an ability given to us to actually walk in truth. We were instructed to get rid of our old self and then put on our new self. The next few verses show what that looks like in practice:
25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.
We often think the best route of fixing a problem is to brush over the details or avoid the conversation. However, God often has a deeper benefit to circumstances we encounter. Verse 15 said “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” When we surround ourselves with truth instead of allowing small waves of lies to surround our life we are 1)showing our submission to God who calls us to truth 2)walking in what allows us to grow into who Christ is and 3) showing we actually trust God.
Being honest is a submission to God but also evidence of our trust because we are saying “I feel like I can control the situation but I am going to put it in God’s hands.” By walking in truth we submit ourselves to Him regardless of the difficulties and open ourselves up to Him leading us.
You are a new creation and falsehood is not in your bag of tricks to direct things your way. This is a basic one… but one we struggle with none the less.
*Should I go back to writing out example prayers or do you all enjoy praying on your own? Comment below to lemme know!*
Spend 1-2 minutes thanking God that you are now able to have Him lead your life. Then spend 2-3 minutes asking Him to show you how you may be walking in falsehood in your life. Ask Him to show you how you may be avoiding telling someone what you are feeling, admitting your sadness, whatever it is. Pray, He will guide. 🙂
Your “Response” step should lend to your “Relate” step. Unless you’re one of those who are living in falsehood in relation to yourself, you should be guided to fix something with someone else. Step out and do that! Also, keep this in mind any time you are ever tempted to lie. God is sufficient, there’s no need to lie.
This song talks about how powerful God is, and how the Lord of Hosts goes with us! 🙂
