Refresh my heart today Lord. Remind me of the need to seek You daily. Let my need for Your Word be greater than my need to eat as I awake. Give me hunger pangs for Your sweet Scripture. Instill within me an insatiable desire to be filled with Your Truth.
17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
We finally have our offensive weapon. We’ve been talking about how to defend ourselves from the enemies attacks but now we have shifted to attacking. Often we think of God’s Word as a way to ward off the attacks of Satan but here Paul puts it as the weapon we will use to charge the opposition. So what does this mean? How does this work?
We fill ourselves with what the Lord has said. We overflow our fleshly minds, taking back strong holds the enemy once dwelled in. We are breaking through the lines of soldiers that once held different areas of our life captive. It is with this Word that we are bringing freedom to places we never thought we would see freedom. We break through struggles of anger, anxiety, and depression. We use the Sword to dissect what the enemy has planted as traps for us and destroy his bases that were planted within our territory.
Now we don’t only work offensively within ourselves. We use this Sword to simultaneously lead charges that break into enemy lines and ward off the enemy from the captives he has been holding. We cut through to reach those who have been lost for so long, enslaved by our foe. With the Word of God we free these slaves from their chains and bring them into the Kingdom.
Now our duty doesn’t stop there. Though we have freed prisoners of war with God’s Word it is our duty to equip them with the same battle gear. We bring them into our operating base, gather the necessary tools, and give them a sword to return and free others.
The Word of God is our proactive, offensive measure we are given open access to. The more we dwell on it, train in it, utilize it, the more we become significant adversaries for Satan. We have the opportunity to become special forces soldiers it is just our duty to begin the training and practice. Let’s seek to become those specialized, highly honored, intense soldiers.
God lead me into training. Show me how to use Your Word as a weapon of warfare to offensively press our enemy. Help me no more just be defensive and retreat under the attacks but instead to also be pressing into his territory, freeing those he has held captive for so long. Help me to be reminded daily that I am on a battlefield and I can be as strong as I desire by dwelling in Your Word.
Parents: Your children likely cannot read as well as you. So it is your job to be reading and teaching your children. They need to be equipped so that they can offensively press their foe instead of just learning how to cope with temptation. They can be molded from a young age into impressive soldiers. As this happens you are equipping your family with a platoon of soldiers verses just being a lone soldier assisting wounded volunteers.
In like manner we need to be motivating our friends around us to be training in their offensive warfare. We are all on the same team, fighting the same enemy. We should be motivating our fellow soldiers to further equip themselves so that we are strengthened as a whole! 🙂
