Have you ever been at a dinner part at your grandparents’ or parents’ house for Christmas dinner where your kid nephews join? Your nephew is there and you know it’s going to be the same thing as every year. This kid is going to talk you through every single present he got for Christmas. He is so excited that he tells you when he woke up, how many gifts were under the tree when he got up, which one he opened first, how stoked he was after each present. He just loves his gifts so much that it’s almost impossible for him to not talk about it for fifty years.
This is annoying… but also natural. People naturally worship, or outwardly express/talk about/discuss the things they are most excited about.
In fact, for a human to fully enjoy something we feel compelled to share it with someone else. Just imagine for a moment you have been hunting deer all season long. You have been attempting to get a large buck. Camping out in a tree, waking up early, peeing in a bottle. Some of you may be even wearing a diaper… maybe not? 🙂 You finally see it, a giant buck coming into sight. Just out of a normal person’s range. You’ve got this though. The conditions seem favorable. So you prep. Breathing steadied. You exhale, pull, contact made. You got him. You finally got what you have been waiting for. Are you fulfilled? You have accomplished what you set out to do, but was that the peak of your emotional experience?
NO… that’s why Facebook is so prevalent. It’s near impossible not to share with people the things you are excited about. In fact there’s a part of us that doesn’t fully feel fulfilled until we DO have an outward expression of said event. We HAVE to post a picture of that dead deer on facebook, the tree stand, and our pee bottle… stop peeing in bottles guys. That’s all I wanted to talk about today. Thanks…
Lol maybe I’ll get to a real point today? Let’s try… So… what about your salvation? Scripture tells you in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. You are supposed to be cast into an endless lake of fire for your consistent disobedience to what your creator has asked you to do. You deserve to be disciplined severely because you have constantly disobeyed the one who made you and was beaten to death for you. Could you imagine your child/spouse acting the way we do in relation to God? We are seemingly in a constant state of disobedience, ignoring His instructions for our life, complaining He hasn’t given us more, etc. Yet He has overlooked all of that and given us gifts beyond comparison… and we don’t speak about it nearly as much as a little kid does about his Christmas presents, or people who wear diapers and hunt. (everyone who hunts wears diapers they just don’t admit it publicly) (that may not be true).
Are you truly excited about what God has done or are you taking it for granted? The good news… one day you are going to be excited about what you’ve received. Praise the Lord one day we are going to truly see what God has given us and we will no longer take it for granted. 🙂 Maybe we can pray for that mindset to happen here on Earth so we can help others get there? Perhaps.
Spend 1 minute thanking God for the free gift He has given you and the fact that He is willing to overlook your ungratefulness. Then spend 2-3 minutes asking God to help you be excited about your gift, more excited than anything else in your life.
Be excited and share what you have, not because you want to change people’s thoughts but because you love Jesus. Maybe evangelism looks more like an excited kid on Christmas instead of that person standing outside the store asking people to sign up for insurance.
