16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
I’m doing one last recap on these verses. Our three recent points are/were:
1)Sin is a choice, kinda 2)We naturally want the opposite of God and 3)You cannot conquer sin without the Holy Spirit.
Today I am simply going to use this time to drive home the importance of realizing the three above truths and the necessity to walk in the Spirit. Listen to the words of this song (posted above): I’m not enough, unless you come, will you meet me here again; You are not enough. If you are not petitioning for the Spirit to guide your daily life you are not enough. Your christian walk is powerless, shallow, and fruitless if you are not walking with the Spirit daily. There is no debate about it. If you are not intentionally walking with the Spirit you are wasting opportunity after opportunity. You are squandering areas of growth, an opportunity for a powerful ministry, a life altering effect on those around you, I could go on.
So I am asking you today, can you seek the Spirit for just a week? Can you commit to wake up daily and ask the Spirit to guide you. On an hourly basis reminding yourself to be looking at Him instead of your flesh for your direction. Constantly be in communication with Him. Lament over your sin or inability to focus on Him. Petition for change. Spend a week walking with Him. It may be hard, however I believe that after experiencing the christian life that you’re SUPPOSED to experience you will strive to work towards making that a habit.
According to Scripture the Holy Spirit’s job is to “teach you all things and will remind you of everything [Jesus has] said to you.” Many christians walk around with a powerless relationship with the Lord due to pure ignorance. So we fixed that with you guys! If you have read this I am counting on the Spirit to remind you daily you MUST be in step with the Spirit. That’s the benefit of preaching; once you have said what God calls you to say the Spirit (literally God) works to remind them of those truths! So, it’s too late for you now that you’ve heard it.
I cannot stress to you the major, revolutionary change this has had on my life. PLEASE don’t read this and go away unchanged.
Respond:
God help me to listen to the direction given in these posts and apply it to my life. Cause my heart to long for more. Cause my heart to desire a full relationship with You. Cause my heart to burn with desire to relentless long for intense intimacy with You. Keep me from accept the “status quo” when it comes to my walk with You.
Relate:
That truth in John 14:26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you,” that’s beneficial for your relationships. Share the truths we have been discussing and trust the Spirit to keep those truths on the forefront of their minds! Assure that you aren’t walking in freedom while those around you are being tricked into staying within their cells. Show them what it looks like to take grasp of the bars and push them open, walking into freedom. You have a key that many people (I was one of those people) don’t realize they need. Those same people are going to shed tear after tear once their lives have been radically changed. You hold a key to freedoms that, for some, may never have seemed attainable or they’ve been looking for it their whole lives and they will finally experience it. I feel like I owe my entire christian experience now, the freedom I have, the power I have experienced, all of it to the man who taught me about pneumatology (walking in the Spirit). GO be that person!
I would love to do a series on walking with the Holy Spirit, including regular sessions for discussion while doing the series.
