7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
We’ve discussed the fruits of the flesh, the fruits of the Spirit, and how we are supposed to stay in step with the Spirit. Now Paul reminds us about a simple fact of life: what you sow into you’ll reap. In the same way, Paul reminds us that we are drawn into corruption and pain via reaping to the flesh.
There’s a generation of Christians who sow to their flesh daily by not keeping in step with the Spirit and they are wondering why they are unsatisfied with God, or deeply struggling with sin. They complain about a shallow relationship, that God never hears their prayers, that they don’t understand why God would… and you can fill in the blank. The problem is that God called us to live a Christian life which was deeply ingrained in communicating and being guided by the Spirit but our modern era has shifted the truth and rebranded the faith as trusting in Christ and that’s it!
There’s an entire “second work of grace” that we have been talking about: sanctification. Sanctification is the process where we daily open up our lives and see what God would have us change or adjust. In this, we must continually sow to the Spirit, seek His guidance, call on Him to lead us. If we are only communicating with our flesh we will reap what our flesh yields, corruption.
What are you sowing to?
Respond:
God I know that I sow to my flesh constantly. I fulfill most of the desires of my flesh as it guides me daily, when to eat, sleep, exercise, it is all guided by my fleshly desires. I pray You help me break that mold. I pray the Spirit can shift my preferences so that I will desire to listen to YOU instead of myself. Help me to sow to the Spirit so that I can reap life!

It’s hard to realize, if you’re saved, that you have been sowing to your flesh. The reason it is hard is because MOST christians don’t think of it this way. They have been indoctrinated with American Christianity which is barely christianity at all. Share with someone the information you gained today as it may find a solid place in their life to assist them! Perhaps they have been reaping what they’ve sown and not realized it was them that caused it.
