After a wonderful weekend of remembering what You have done on the cross, keep Your payment on my mind. Keep me from forsaking the message You found so important. Keep me from filling my daily schedule with things that distract me from the mission You devoted Your life to.
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus
The verses that follow this verse definitely pack a lot in, but much can be drawn from even this verse! Imagine a church which bases all of the relationships within on the mindset of Christ. Imagine a family of believers who would view each other in regards to how Christ would view them. An entire fellowship which looks past offenses, values people above what they are inherently worth.
Christ came down to mankind who had no desire to fellowship with Him. Christ didn’t base His commitment to mankind on their commitment to Him. Rather He displayed His loving character by fully loving people who had no care for Him. Additionally He was willing to pay the ultimate price for someone who was not willing to even be shamed for the other. Man was not willing to sacrifice anything for Christ but He was willing to give everything for them.
If we put effort into reflecting Christ in our relationships we would see radical change happen in the people around us. When we love each other, as Christ commanded, that is when the world sees us and recognizes God. It is through our actions, our love for one another that the world sees that we are followers of Christ.
The awesome thing is this mindset doesn’t take both sides committing to it. Christ didn’t wait to pay for our sins until we committed to following Him. So, to apply these verses we can begin ourselves. We can love our friends and family with an unrelenting forgiveness. We can care for people in a way that puts value on them far beyond what they display. Take the step, and have the mindset of Christ Jesus.
Lord, this seems like no small task. I am selfish, prone to responding out of pain. I need help to apply these verses. In fact, You know I cannot do this without Your help. I pray You step in and motivate me to be focused on applying this mindset. I pray You sustain me in the moments I want to react to others treating me poorly. I pray You help me to look past my irritations when my preferences are violated. Help me Lord, I need You.
These verses are all about relating with others. Simply begin in prayer, and ask God to help you act in the manner Scripture calls us to. He will provide, He is a faithful father! Begin changing the environment of your relationships! Stop the spread of hate and selfishness!
