This morning I stood at the window and looked out as the rain sprinkled down. I was struck with the awe and wonder of our Creator. I see all of creation casually demonstrating the power and majesty of God. Creation demonstrates this radical Creator, all while still being marred with the fall. We can look at the intricacy of the trees, the beautiful system of evaporation and rain, all of these things that we strive to understand. It is all exquisite, intricate, and planned… Yet it is something He created (with just His voice). Psalm 150 reflects this same position of praise. Below I have sectioned out the Psalm into it’s focuses and then shared some thoughts that I am led to when I read them. Look at this heart of praise!
Praise Him Everywhere
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
praise Him in His mighty heavens!
The Psalmist declares we are to praise Him everywhere. God is worthy of praise that goes beyond praising Him only in the temple/meeting places. The beauty of God and His great mercies are to be praised all around us, everywhere. This reminds me to be praising Him as I drive down the road and see the beauty of His creation. Praise Him when I am waking up and smelling the fresh day’s air. Everywhere, all the time.
Praise Him For Everything
2 Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Everything. All of His mighty deeds, His excellence, God is remarkable! Remarkable means to remark… so we shall. We praise God for all the things He has done. He has painted one of the most beautiful pictures ever possible, life and existence. Though it’s effected by the evil of sin and mankind He is still painting a beautiful picture of redemption! Not only that but inside that picture is contained all the beauties you have ever seen or imagined. His perfect creation that is being crippled by sin still contains all the beauties you have ever seen!! Imagine that.
Praise Him with Everything
3 Praise Him with trumpet sound;
praise Him with lute and harp!
4 Praise Him with tambourine and dance;
praise Him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise Him with sounding cymbals;
praise Him with loud clashing cymbals!
With all things. Give us a full on orchestra to praise Him! I think we can view this as more than just an “every instrument” type of detail. The Psalmist wants us to realize that we can praise Him emphatically, excitedly, loudly!! Don’t you usually only do this when you are over joyful and excited? So… Praise Him with everything because He is worthy and able to give you that kind of joy. Let’s not reserve our “praise” to when we are sad and need help, but constantly appreciating Him and all He has done for us that we constantly overlook.
Everyone Praise Him
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
This Psalm is finished with “everything that has breath praise the Lord” indicating this is like getting to the end of a list and just declaring EVERYONE/EVERYTHING! lol Every living creation should turn to the creator and pour out praises about Him and all He has blessed us with. For without Him we would literally not exist.
Spend 5 minutes thanking Yahweh for literally everything. Your life, your family, your experience with life now, your access to Him, everything.
Tell someone how you feel about God today!
