Have you ever said “I need to pray more” then you started and ended up in this awkward moment of silence… so you moonwalk away hoping God didn’t realize you didn’t have anything to say? Been there, been there. It seems like most of us only know how to pray asking God for stuff, and sometimes thanking Him for stuff (just so we don’t have to always be asking for stuff). I’m sure none of us want that kind of relationship with other people… well at least we don’t want them to treat us like that! We are fine doing that to others. :p
For the most part we realize the issue with other people and try to actively change it, but not with God. We stay the same for years and years and most people don’t even desire to change. They have a dead relationship with the Lord and wonder why they don’t desire to spend time with Him… well it’s because they’ve never actually spent time with Him.
One of my favorite things to do is praying through the Psalms. They were David’s petitions to the Lord and it works so well for me to pray them back to God. This not only takes away the anxiety of not having anything else to say, but also it starts to change my prayer life and thoughts to match that of the Word! So, I want to do that with you today. 😀 We will start with Psalms 1.
God I know that you have called us to not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers. You have told us that if instead of doing those things we find delight in Your Word and who meditates on it day and night we will be blessed! I pray I find my delight in Your Word, focusing on what You have said, not listening to sinners or mockers but instead finding my delight in YOU!
You have promised that if we do this we will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither prospering in whatever we do. Lord I pray this is a banner over my life: that I delight in Your Word and focus on it constantly so that whatever I put my hands to will reflect Your Word and I will find each thing I do will prosper.
Help me to know that you watch over my way if I am seeking Your righteousness, but if I am following my flesh I will be led to destruction.
Help me to not be like the wicked who are like chaff that the wind blows away. Help me to not be like the wicked who will not withstand in judgement.
Tune my heart to Your Word and Your desires Lord. Just as David cried out, I need You!
Find someone who you can be accountable with. Try to pray through a Psalm once a week. It is powerful. Try to apply this! 🙂 Don’t ignore this suggestion >.<
