For three years Christ walked with His disciples. He shepherded, discipled, demonstrated power, and many other things. After these three years He says, “you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;” but to do what? Well, Jesus clarifies: “you shall be witnesses to Me.” Their power was to be witnesses!! Since we’ve been talking about the powerful ministry of the Spirit and His presence in our life it’s vital to see the power God gives us is in line with the ministry God gives us.
We’ve said in past devotions (2 Corinthians 5:19) that God gave us a ministry of reconciliation. In a past sermon I likened Christian Living to that of a war (the battle field of reconciliation and death). Many people are around us daily without hope. It is our job to be aware, look around, and partner with God to save them. However, most of us are calling in support for the battle (“God help me be comfortable”, or “give me endurance”) but we are no where near the battlefield. My point is this: God’s powerful, beautifully supernatural life is given for the purpose of the mission He is on… reconciliation. Therefore, if you want to experience a powerful, Spirit filled life, you’ve got to be available for use… and be useful. Your salvation is a gift, His grace and mercy is a gift, but your experience of the power of the Spirit is based upon His purpose.
You will experience the power you’ve been offered when you join the ministry you’ve been called to. God is no liar, He offered freedom, power, etc… and it’s there, but for a purpose. He also made that part clear, but we often assume that “all of His promises are Yes and Amen” has an asterisk that says *Even if you are ignoring what He told you to do with them*. All of God’s promises are based upon obedience to His instructions/purpose.
Mark 3:35 For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
God is in the business of glorifying God. Isaiah 43:7 says the reason mankind exists is to bring glory to God. SO…. if you’re looking for the power of the Spirit to be evident, are you in the field working?
Spend 1-2 minutes thanking God that the power of the Spirit reached into your darkness and saved you! The spend 2-3 minutes asking Him to help you see what His Spirit is empowering you to do!
Look around for someone God is calling to Him.
