I am a firm believer that we should do NOTHING out of habit, tradition, or simply because it’s normal. Instead I believe the Word of God makes it clear that we are to keep in step with the Spirit, and assure that everything we do on a daily basis is based on His direction and not our planning. Today I have read through the assigned passages, read through alternate passages, and I feel the Spirit is gently nudging me to change things up today.
There has been much talk lately about the child trafficking ring and the depth in which that disgusting evil has gone. Someone out there has all the details about what has been happening. That person has held all the details to helping these kids but are doing nothing. Maybe they reach out once a month dropping new clues… maybe… perhaps once a week at best… They’ve freed a couple kids from the slavery and torture but spend most of their time working, saving for what they will do when they retire, hanging with friends, and doing a lot of “fun” things…
Ok, so at least they saved some kids right? We can’t be super judgmental against them as they have done SOME work I guess, and it’s not even their job or duty to do that! What if I told you this person was a former slave just like those children. In fact someone died getting them out. They went in to free the person and traded their life for the slaves. The sacrificial hero told the person, “I am going to give my life to get you out of this slavery, you go and share this with the others in this prison and get them out!” Now evaluating their life it seems a little more irritating that he/she didn’t do more to help those enslaved right? They were ripped from the grips of torment and slavery out of nothing THEY did, they did not earn it or work for it. Yet they are so arrogant to not be fully committed to helping those still locked up. There are kids in there dying and being brutally tormented and they sit at home enjoying their freedom dedicating SOME time. They are not being good stewards of their purpose and knowledge.
I am that person. You are that person. We have been freed from the anguish of sin. We have been given the miraculous freedom from being tormented daily and led to the slaughter.
1 Corinthians 4: 1This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.
You have been entrusted with a incredible power and will be held accountable for every idle you speak when you stand in front of God at the Bema seat! (Matthew 12:36) We can do nothing lasting without the Spirit’s empowerment and guidance. I don’t know where you are today but God calls us to be good stewards of His grace. He has been gracious to you, to me. So what will you do? What are you committing your time to today? Are you leading the surge back into the pit to help pull more kids to freedom or are you sitting at home watching the news, complaining about the sorrow… Observing the sin around you, noting the need, but doing nothing.
