Yesterday we talked about commitment being divided between ourself and God… and we noted that may not work according to Matthew 6:24. Today I want to encourage you regarding that!
I don’t want you to let the enemy get you discouraged about NOT being fully committed to the Lord. Yeah, you may be serving yourself… and ultimately not following God at all. However, there’s a verse you should have memorized Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Hopefully I have said this in half of my sermons. Why?
Wow, I am always concerned you won’t ask the right questions but you always do! 😉
Satan wants us to worry about God truly loving us, or think that He doesn’t love us because of our sins. Well, when Christ died for you, for me, we were still completely sinful. It tells us in Scripture that Him dying for us is the ultimate display of love. So, He is never going to shift to loving you less because of your commitment towards Him. No, the purpose of Scripture is not so that you can evaluate whether God loves you, but if you truly know and love Him. Don’t look at the warnings and concerns in Scripture as though it is for evaluating whether God’s love for you has changed. It is for your benefit in terms of evaluating how YOU are doing. God will always have more love for you than you could possibly fathom!!
We often read things about how we are supposed to be, what we are supposed to do, or what celery we should eat, and see that we simply aren’t that way, so we throw up our hands and say “I’m not saved!” Well, NO! You may be saved but are being told what you should be doing, not what you HAVE to have done to be saved. It’s like if you had rules for your home 1)love one another as God has loved you 2)don’t stand on the table 3)don’t throw dirty underwear 4)Never, NEVER talk bad about caffeine. Aside from the last one, your kids would still be your kids if they don’t follow the rules. The rules are your desires in the home for a good setting. There may be discipline from missing the mark but ultimately (again aside from number 4) you will still love your kids if they break the rules.
Respond:
Spend 1 minute thanking God for His never changing, never ending, never diminishing love towards you! Then spend 2-3 minutes asking Him to solidify in your heart that He adores you. Ask Him to help you see how unshakable and immense His love is towards you!
Relate:
Tell someone that God loves them no matter what they do!
Hey, God loves you no matter what you do.
✅ done. 🙃
